Queenstown

Known as the adventure capital of the world, Queenstown is the most popular holiday destination in New Zealand for international visitors, offering an incredible range of things to do no matter what the season. Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, in front of the impressive Remarkables mountain range, nature has purpose built this area for adventure. Queenstown is a premier alpine and lake resort, for both adventurers and leisure seekers alike. It is here that bungy jumping first became a commercial venture, with other year-round, action-packed thrills; including jet-boating and white-water rafting, canyoning, luging and paragliding. The more traditional pursuits of golfing, horse-riding, mountain biking and skiing in winter are also popular. The less adventurous can enjoy alpine walks, cruise Lake Wakatipu aboard an historic steamboat, indulge and relax at one of the many spas, visit the fine wineries of the region or wander around the many shops. The best mountain views are to be had from the Skyline Gondola, which has a panoramic restaurant, overlooking the town and Lake Wakatipu. Take a scenic flight to discover Fiordland and the famous Milford Sound. In winter, skiers and snowboarders come from all over the world to join in the fun at the annual Winter Festival.
